Fort Washington (AP) - The Kings returned home to a raucous crowd braving the chilly May weather.  But the cool temps did little to stop the Kings bats.  Several strings of hits in the first four innings consistently loaded the bases and pressured Chelten to go to the bullpen `in the fourth to stem the surge.  The change appeared to succeed as the barrage would subside in the sixth and seventh innings, but not after the damage had been done.

Chelten mounted a strong reply to the King’s early game offense in the fourth and fifth innings, but fell short against Steve Brandenburg’s able pitching who went the distance for the decision.  The King’s defense held up well behind the pitching and showed marked improvement from earlier season efforts.  Jason, Chelten’s third baseman made a couple of impressive defensive plays including a well-placed throw home to prevent a run scoring during an aggressive non-forced attempt by a King’s runner advancing from third on a well-hit, but well-handled, grounder.

The Kings spread 20 hits throughout the order with Steve Daly, Mark Hood, Dan Johnson and Tim Stonehouse notching at least one double.  Notably, there were few multi-base hits and no home runs by either team.

The Kings continue their scheduled dance with Chelten’s two entries into the church’s bid for the 2017 SCFSL crown hosting ‘the other Chelten (Baptist)’ team next Friday while ‘this Chelten (United) team’ attempts redemption against Glenside Bible next Wednesday.
